Owners upgrading the intake system on a Toyota 80 Series LandCruiser eventually reach the point where they need to choose between snorkel configurations, and the entry style is one of the decisions that matters most for how the final system fits together. Short entry and long entry snorkels are not interchangeable. They sit at different positions on the guard, connect to different airbox setups, and choosing the wrong one for your build creates fitment problems that require either modifications or a complete re-order to resolve.
The Radius Fabrications Drivers Side 4 Inch Stainless Steel Long Entry Snorkel for the Toyota 80 Series LandCruiser is the long entry variant in our 80 Series snorkel range. It's fabricated from 304 grade stainless steel, TIG welded in-house at our Capalaba, Queensland workshop, and available in both rear-facing and forward-facing inlet styles. Knowing which airbox you're running before you order is essential for this snorkel, so the compatibility details are worth reading through carefully before making a selection.
What Long Entry Means and Who It Suits
The long entry design is fabricated to cover the position of the existing plastic OEM snorkel on the 80 Series, which places the guard entry point further down the guard than a short entry snorkel. This positioning difference is what creates the airbox compatibility limitation that 80 Series owners need to understand before choosing this variant.
Because the long entry snorkel sits lower on the guard, it does not align with the factory OEM airbox. Connecting it to the factory airbox would require modifications to the airbox itself, and we do not supply components or guidance for those modifications. If you're planning to retain the factory airbox and want to avoid any modification work, the short entry snorkel is the right choice for your build.
The long entry snorkel is designed for owners running a Radius Fabrications airbox or an aftermarket 3, 3.5, or 4 inch airbox. For these setups, the long entry position works cleanly and the silicone joiners supplied in the kit are matched to these configurations as standard.
We recommend pairing this snorkel with our 80 Series Airbox. The Radius 80 Series snorkel runs slightly longer than other brands including Safari, so pairing it with a Radius airbox from the outset avoids alignment and length mismatches that can arise when mixing components from different manufacturers.
Rear Facing and Forward Facing Inlet Options
Unlike the short entry variant which is available in a single forward-facing style, the long entry snorkel gives owners the choice between rear-facing and forward-facing inlet configurations. Both options are available through the product page.
The rear-facing inlet positions the head opening toward the rear of the vehicle, deflecting water and debris away from the opening rather than collecting it directly. For 80 Series owners who spend a lot of time in wet conditions, river crossings, or heavy rain, the rear-facing configuration handles moisture ingress more conservatively than a forward-facing alternative.
The forward-facing inlet points the opening toward the front of the vehicle and into the airflow at speed. At highway cruise, this produces a mild positive pressure effect at the inlet that some owners prefer for the marginal airflow benefit it provides on open road driving. The forward-facing head also has a more prominent visual presence on the vehicle if that's a consideration for the build direction.
Both configurations sit at the same long entry guard position. The choice between them comes down to how the vehicle is used and the visual result the owner wants rather than a functional difference in airbox compatibility.
304 Grade Stainless Steel Construction
The long entry 80 Series snorkel is fabricated from 304 grade stainless steel throughout, TIG welded in-house at our Capalaba workshop. The 304 grade provides inherent corrosion resistance that doesn't rely on a surface coating, which matters for a component that lives on the exterior of the vehicle and faces constant exposure to sun, dust, rain, and vibration over years of use.
Every unit is CAD designed and CNC cut before TIG welding, which gives us precise control over the dimensions and bend angles that determine how cleanly the snorkel sits against the 80 Series body lines at the long entry guard position.
Finish Options
Four finish options are available: polished stainless, powder coated black, seamless polished, and seamless powder coated black. The polished finish shows the natural quality of the 304 grade material and develops character over time with outdoor use. Powder coated black provides a lower-profile matte result that integrates more quietly into the overall look of the vehicle. The seamless options remove the small visible TIG weld join at each bend that appears on the standard finishes, which is a normal fabrication characteristic rather than a defect. If a fully smooth external appearance matters to your build, specify the seamless option when ordering.
Engine Compatibility
The long entry snorkel suits the full range of 80 Series engine configurations available in Australia. On the diesel side it's compatible with the 1HZ naturally aspirated and the 1HD-T turbocharged engines. On the petrol side it works with the 1FZ-FE. This broad compatibility applies regardless of which inlet style or finish is selected.
All Radius snorkels are guard entry systems only. Bonnet entry configurations are not available in this range.
What's in the Kit
Every kit includes the drivers side stainless steel snorkel in the chosen inlet style and finish, a cutting template to guide the guard modification, silicone joiners matched to your airbox selection, hose clamps, and mounting brackets. Installation instructions are included, and the snorkel mounts to the A-pillar using a custom bracket with nutserts and bolts.
Standard shipping for the long entry snorkel includes silicone joiners to suit the Radius Fabrications or aftermarket airbox configuration unless you specify otherwise in your order notes. Getting your airbox selection confirmed before ordering ensures the correct silicone is supplied in the kit from the outset.
Minor modifications may be required for older generation airboxes depending on your specific build. If you're unsure about your airbox configuration or want to confirm compatibility before ordering, send photos through to us and we can advise before production begins.
Aftermarket Turbo, Intercooler, and Dual Battery Fitment
Aftermarket turbos and intercoolers are compatible with this snorkel in most cases. Engine bay layouts vary between builds, and sending photos through before ordering is the most reliable way to confirm clearance for your specific setup rather than assuming compatibility. Dual battery systems generally don't interfere with snorkel installation, though layout planning within the engine bay is the determining factor.
Throttle controllers are also compatible with the snorkel and airbox setup and can be used alongside the intake upgrade if that's part of your build.
Fabricated to Order in Capalaba
Every snorkel we produce is built to order at our Capalaba, Queensland workshop. CNC cutting, TIG welding, and finishing all happen in-house, which keeps quality control within our team from start to finish. Current lead times are updated on the website and reflect our actual production schedule.
We operate under a no change of mind policy given the custom made nature of our products. Selecting the correct inlet style, finish, and airbox configuration before ordering is straightforward when you work through the options on the product page, and confirming these details upfront avoids replacement shipping costs and production delays.
If the long entry configuration suits your 80 Series intake setup, head to the product page to select your inlet style and finish, or contact us if you have questions about airbox compatibility before placing your order.
