The Toyota 80 Series LandCruiser holds a special place in the Australian four wheel drive community. Built from 1990 to 1998, these vehicles were overengineered in a way that has kept them on the road and on the track for decades, and a well-maintained 80 Series with the right modifications is still one of the most capable touring platforms available. The engine bay, however, was designed for an era when factory intake systems weren't expected to deal with the kind of off-road use that Australian owners put them through.
A snorkel changes that. Elevating the intake above the roofline keeps dust and water away from the engine, draws cooler air from outside the engine bay, and gives an 80 Series the intake protection it needs for serious use. The Radius Fabrications Drivers Side 4 Inch Stainless Steel Snorkel for the Toyota 80 Series LandCruiser is designed, fabricated, and TIG welded in-house at our Capalaba, Queensland workshop, built specifically to follow the 80 Series body lines and deliver a clean, OEM-style result.
Short Entry Design for the 80 Series
The 80 Series snorkel in our range is a short entry design, which describes where the snorkel interfaces with the airbox in the engine bay. The short entry configuration suits both the factory Toyota airbox and the Radius Fabrications airbox, and we supply the required silicone joiners for whichever airbox you're running. If you're using an aftermarket airbox in a 3, 3.5, or 4 inch configuration, specify your setup in your order notes and we'll confirm compatibility before production.
One important note for 80 Series owners: all Radius snorkels are fabricated as guard entry systems only. Bonnet entry snorkels are not available in this range. If your build requires a bonnet entry configuration, this product won't suit your setup.
Engine Compatibility Across the 80 Series Range
One of the stronger aspects of this snorkel for the 80 Series market is the engine compatibility. The 80 Series LandCruiser was sold in Australia with several engine configurations over its production run, and owners running different setups often face confusion about which products will suit their vehicle.
The Radius Fabrications 80 Series snorkel is compatible with both diesel and petrol 80 Series engines. On the diesel side, it suits the 1HZ naturally aspirated and the 1HD-T turbocharged configurations. On the petrol side, it's compatible with the 1FZ-FE. This broad compatibility makes it a practical option across most 80 Series builds without needing to verify engine-specific fitment before ordering.
Minor modifications may be required on earlier generation or earlier model airboxes depending on your specific build. If you're unsure about your configuration, sending photos through to us before ordering is the most reliable way to confirm fitment.
304 Grade Stainless Steel Construction
The snorkel is fabricated from 304 grade stainless steel throughout, TIG welded in-house by our team in Capalaba. The 304 grade is chosen for the combination of strength, natural corrosion resistance, and workability it offers for a component that lives on the exterior of the vehicle permanently. Unlike coated mild steel, the corrosion resistance in 304 grade stainless comes from within the material rather than a surface layer that can be compromised on the track.
The result is a snorkel that holds its finish and structural integrity through the kind of exposure that Australian touring puts a vehicle through, sun, dust, salt air, creek water, and constant vibration over rough terrain.
Style and Finish Options
The 80 Series snorkel is available in rear facing and forward facing inlet styles. The rear facing head deflects water away from the opening in rain and during water crossings, which suits vehicles that see regular deep water use. The forward facing head positions the opening toward the airflow at speed, which some owners prefer for the mild intake pressure effect at highway cruise and for the visual presence it gives the build.
Finish options include polished stainless, powder coated black, seamless polished, and seamless powder coated black. The standard polished and powder coated finishes show a small visible TIG weld join at each bend, which is a normal characteristic of fabricated stainless snorkels. The seamless options remove this external join for builds where a fully smooth surface appearance is required.
All four combinations of style and finish are available through the product page.
What's in the Kit
The kit includes the drivers side stainless steel snorkel in the chosen style and finish, a cutting template, silicone joiners matched to your airbox selection, hose clamps, and mounting brackets. The snorkel mounts to the A-pillar using a custom bracket with nutserts and bolts, and installation instructions are included in the kit.
Standard shipping includes silicone joiners sized to suit the factory airbox unless you specify a different airbox at the time of ordering. If your build uses a Radius airbox or an aftermarket unit, confirm this in your order notes so the correct silicone is supplied with your kit. Replacement shipping for incorrect selections is payable by the customer, so getting the airbox selection right before ordering saves time on both sides.
Aftermarket Turbo, Intercooler, and Dual Battery Compatibility
The 80 Series community runs a wide range of modifications alongside snorkel and airbox upgrades, and the most common questions we receive relate to compatibility with other aftermarket components.
For aftermarket turbochargers and intercoolers, many owners have successfully paired a Radius snorkel and airbox with these upgrades. We can't guarantee compatibility for every specific combination without seeing the engine bay layout, so sending us photos is the most reliable step before ordering if you're running a modified setup.
For dual battery systems, in most cases the snorkel installation does not interfere with a second battery. Layout planning within the engine bay is the key factor, and sending photos through to us if you're unsure will let us confirm before you order rather than after.
Throttle controllers are also compatible with this snorkel and airbox setup and can be used to improve response alongside the intake upgrade if that's part of your build plan.
Built to Order in Capalaba
Every snorkel we produce is fabricated to order at our Capalaba, Queensland workshop. The entire process, from CAD design and CNC cutting through to TIG welding and finishing, happens in-house under our quality control. Current lead times are listed on the website and updated as our production schedule changes.
If your 80 Series LandCruiser is due for a proper intake upgrade that suits both your engine configuration and the conditions you drive in, the Radius Fabrications Drivers Side Stainless Steel Snorkel is built to fit cleanly and perform reliably.
